A ligature is a metal wire or rubber rings that are attached to the groove of each bracket and fix the metal arch, which corrects and puts pressure on the dentition. The ligature helps keep the entire brace system in place, allowing your bite to change and your teeth to align.
What is a ligature?
Modern orthodontists use 2 types of ligatures:
• A metal ligature is a special anti-allergenic wire that firmly connects the arch to the teeth. The design is very rigid and is recommended in the initial stages of bite correction. Such ligatures are rarely replaced.
• Elastic ligature for braces – rubber rings that need to be changed for braces correction every time the arch is tightened. About once a month.
The patient can choose the color of the elastic ligatures and make their brace systems brighter or choose a color for a certain holiday.
